heavy and extra heavy truck and trailer repair shops
Use the following checklist to verify a complete submission.
- Complete the main garage application [ get it here ]
- Complete the driver schedule on the application. Make sure to fill in job duties, titles, or family
member status (e.g. son, spouse, daughter, etc..) for each driver or employee. Mark each
driver whether furnished an auto or not. (this is attached to the garage
application)
- Include MVR's for each developed driver
- If the business is not a new venture, request loss runs for at least 3 years. We may
request these, particularly if:
- There have been losses
- the account is of a certain size where it will be required by the company guidelines
- the account may have to be submitted due to unusual characteristics
Obtain 3 year hard copy loss runs directly from the company. The insured is entitled
to receive these, and just needs to request them from the prior agent.
- It is important to be specific about the types of repairs being performed by a truck
type garage risk. Attach a narrative and cover items such as hydraulic repair, (dump bodies)
and things like engine repairs. Are they for example, full rebuilds or engines, or minor
tune-up? If doing things like body work, then include information about any frame work done.
For example do they straighten frames? If so, do they have a frame rack? What type? Laser type
frame rack, floor or bench type etc..
- Specifically identify any service vehicles, and always schedule tow trucks, wreckers,
and car hauler type vehicles. If physical damage is needed then fill in the current
value of the vehicle. Do NOT use cost new. Then consider whether on-hook coverage is
needed, and if so, fill in the amount on the appropriate on-hook blank. Many of these accounts
will keep a yard tractor around to move, pick up and deliver semi-trailers.
- Write a narrative about the account. This just needs to be a short description of the
account. As an example:
"This account has been in business for 5 years
and has incurred the one loss as noted on the application. Loss runs have been ordered from the
prior carrier and we will forward upon receipt. Current carrier X is non-renewing due to the fact
that they are no longer insuring this class of business. This account specializes in repair of trailers.
They do work on tanker trailers. Any tanker trailers are purged by certified cleaning stations and the trailers
must be tagged as being cleaned before the insured will accept them for repair."
